On June 17th, Maurits van den Boogert, Co-Chief Publishing Officer of De Gruyter Brill, Ding Haijia, China Editorial Director and Asia-Pacific Partnerships Director, Shu Chunyan, Senior Editor of Brill Books (Asian Studies), and Liu Feifei, Asia-Pacific Partnerships Manager at De Gruyter, and their entourage visited FLTRP. Jia Wenjian, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU), Zhang Tianwei, Director of the Research Office at BFSU, Wang Fang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of FLTRP Group (FLTRP), Chair of the Board of FLTRP Group, President of FLTRP, Sun Fenglan, Director of the Journal Publishing Division, Shao Lei, Director of the International Cooperation Department at FLTRP, and Zhang Wen, Deputy Director attended the exchange and cooperation meeting. President Wang Fang delivered a welcome speech and presided over the meeting.
At the meeting, President Jia Wenjian highlighted the distinctive features and strengths of BFSU. He emphasized that BFSU offers courses of 101 foreign languages, actively serving national strategies, and cultivating a large number of high-quality talents proficient in international affairs, which has made significant contributions to China's international exchange, cooperation, and talent cultivation for international communication. He also provided an overview of BFSU's academic journal development: hosting 13 Chinese academic journals, 13 multilingual international academic journals, and 15 academic collections, covering eight languages including Chinese, English, German, French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese. He expressed his hope to leverage De Gruyter's strengths and international promotion experience to enhance the academic reputation and quality of BFSU journals, aiming to quickly elevate them to the ranks of international first-class journals.
President Wang Fang introduced FLTRP's main business sectors and development advantages, highlighting in particular the significant achievements in digital transformation, international capacity building, and overseas expansion in recent years. President Wang Fang stated that De Gruyter is an important partner of FLTRP. Leveraging the multilingual academic resources of BFSU, the two parties have successfully collaborated on the publication of 10 international journals, including "Chinese Applied Linguistics" and "Journal of World Linguistics." She expressed the hope that both sides would deepen their cooperation further, jointly planning and promoting topics aimed at the international market, such as regional and country studies, pedagogy, international communication, humanities and social sciences, and so on.
Maurits van den Boogert, Co-Chief Publishing Officer of De Gruyter Brill, expressed sincere gratitude for the strong support from BFSU and FLTRP in their cooperation on journal publishing. He elaborated on the current business situation of De Gruyter Brill and pointed out that the purpose of De Gruyter's acquisition of Brill is to establish a stronger, more excellent, and modern academic publisher in the humanities disciplines. He hoped that both parties could find the right point of cooperation through this exchange, promote complementary advantages and seek win-win development.
Ding Haijia, China Editorial Director of De Gruyter Brill, stated that De Gruyter Brill has extensive experience in publishing high-quality journals. They will closely integrate resources and strategies with both parties to promote the international development of BFSU academic journals, continuously exploring international cooperation paths with Chinese characteristics.
Zhang Tianwei, Director of the Research Office at BFSU, expressed confidence in the bright prospects of cooperation between the two sides. He hoped to leverage De Gruyter Brill's profound accumulation and rich experience in academic publishing to have more BFSU academic journals indexed in world-class core journal directories and databases such as SSCI, ESCI, and Web of Science.
During the meeting, both sides also had in-depth discussions on cooperation projects including journals, books, and dictionaries. Through this discussion, they gained a deeper understanding of their respective strengths and expressed their intention to strengthen communication, increase the sharing of advantageous resources, actively explore cooperation opportunities, and collaborate in areas such as high-quality book output and introduction, and the building of high-quality academic journals, and to establish a long-term, stable, and profound cooperative relationship together.
