The 2023 "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" "Understanding Contemporary China" National Foreign Language Contest for College Students took place in Beijing from December 4-8, 2023.
The closing ceremony, held on December 8, announced and awarded the national champions in nine foreign languages, including English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Arabian, Japanese, Italian and Portuguese.
The 2023 contest drew the participation of nearly one million college students from over 1,300 universities and colleges, with approximately 2,500 making it to the National Finals. This year marked the expansion of the renowned "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" English contest, which now include a Translation Contest, an Interpreting Contest and the newly introduced International Communication Contest.

With the theme "Understanding Contemporary China, Communicating with the World," each category aimed to cultivate a deeper understanding of China among college students, improve their language skills and intercultural communication competence, and provide a platform for them to narrate stories about China skillfully.
Xu Chengcheng, a Beijing Foreign Studies University student, emerged as the International Communication Contest's national champion. Xu impressed the judges with her profound understanding of global issues, grasp of Chinese wisdom, exceptional English proficiency and practical communication skills demonstrated in her prepared speech at the Global Youth Summit session.

This year's multi-category contest showcased a broader range of topics, encompassing UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), Belt and Road initiatives, cultural diversity and China's path to modernization. The judging panel comprised university professors and international communication experts from governmental institutions, media organizations and enterprises.
The "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" "Understanding Contemporary China" National Foreign Language Contest for College Students was organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University, with co-organization and co-sponsorship by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP).
