Organized by the Publishers Association of China (PAC) and China Publishing Group (CPG), undertaken by the “Belt and Road” working committee of PAC, Xinhua Winshare and International Publishing Weekly, the first “Belt and Road” Publishing Conference was held in Chengdu on October 16, 2020. FLTRP’s Editor-in-Chief Mr. Xu Jianzhong attended the event and made a keynote speech.
In his speech, Mr. Xu introduced the development of FLTRP and said that with the mission of "Recording Human Civilization and Bridging World Culture", FLTRP has built up a publishing capacity in more than 80 languages with high-quality; FLTRP has met the challenges of information technology and built digital platforms such as Beiwai online, Unipus, Waiyan K12 and the Voice of FLTRP; FLTRP has established partnership with more than 700 overseas publishing companies and 300-plus international authors. With the development concepts of high-quality, digitalization, internationalization and specialization, FLTRP is actively building up four matrixes called "multilingual academic journals", "multilingual foreign language textbooks", "multilingual bidirectional dictionaries" and "multilingual CLT textbooks", so as to help China's foreign language academic and educational development, and enhance the integration of Chinese and foreign languages and cultures, as well as mutual learning of civilizations.
Mr. Xu said, since the “Belt and Road” initiative has been launched, FLTRP has made great progress on copyright cooperation, strategic layout and platform construction. So far, FLTRP has licensed more than 700 books and has established cooperative relations with 46 countries in the said area. Thanks to the great effort, a significant number of excellent books on Chinese culture and foreign language learning was promoted. Since the first establishment of China-theme editorial department in Bulgaria in 2017, FLTRP has built up editorial or publishing centers in various countries in Poland, Hungary, Nepal, India, Mexico, Belarus,Malaysia, etc. Mr. Xu also introduced the achievements of the "China-CEEC Publishing Association" (17 + 1 Publishing Association) initiated by FLTRP during the past two years. He said that the Association has vigorously promoted publishing and cultural exchanges between China and Central and Eastern European countries from three aspects: deepening copyright trade, strengthening information sharing, and enhancing publishing exchanges.
In his speech, Mr. Xu shared FLTRP’s three experiences during its cooperation with the “Belt and Road” countries: firstly, adhering to the international vision and giving full play to the advantages on resource and channel accumulated by international cooperation; Secondly, following the market rules and carrying out commercial operation in order to achieve both social and economic benefits; thirdly, establishing long-term mechanisms, strengthening platform construction, building resources and cultivating talents. We should broaden channels and enhance the joint force of "going out".
The award ceremony on excellent cases and outstanding rights managers under the “Belt and Road” initiative was also held in the conference. 40 cases and 30 rights managers received the awards. Rights Manager Ms. Wei Bing from the International Cooperation Department of FLTRP was among the 30 laureates.
