On May 19, 2018, FLTRP, China Intercontinental Press, Bibliothèque de l'Image Press and Confucius Institute of French Riviera jointly held the unveiling ceremony of the "China-Theme Bookshelves" in La Sorbonne Bookstore in Nice. Xia Yin, Acting Consul General of China's Consulate General in Marseilles, Charvin, Director of Cultural Affairs Bureau of Nice city government, Peng Donglin, General Manager of the Belt and Road Language Service Centre of FLTRP, Alain Lévy, General Manager of Bibliothèque de l'Image Press, Su Bo, Dean on Chinese Side of Confucius Institute in French Riviera and teachers and students from Confucius Institute, as well as many local readers participated in this activity.
Acting Consul General Xia Yin said in her speech, it is delighted to see the unveiling ceremony of French first "China-Theme Bookshelves" in cultural tourism city—Nice and the Consulate General wishes to work with Chinese and French presses and other cultural institutions to introduce Chinese culture and facilitate the mutual understanding of people from both countries.

Peng Donglin, General Manager of the Belt and Road Language Service Centre of FLTRP, indicated in his address that the establishment of the "China-Theme Bookshelves" in Nice, France enables local readers to understand and learn the connotation of Chinese culture and know actual China and Chinese people, thereby strengthening China-France cultural exchanges and people-to-people connectivity. The "China-Theme Bookshelves" in France currently focuses on French and English versions of Chinese books, and will add Spanish, Italian, German and other languages books in order to facilitate the purchasing and reading of readers in neighbor's countries.

He said, the "China-Theme Bookshelves" was another cooperative program within the framework of China-Theme Editorial Department between FLTRP and Bibliothèque de l'Image Press, which will facilitate the purchasing and reading of Chinese books for local people and help French people understand Chinese culture. La Sorbonne Bookstore will work with FLTRP to carry out the operation and maintenance of the "China-Theme Bookshelves", enabling the "China-Theme Bookshelves" to be known far and wide.

FLTRP and La Sorbonne Bookstore prepared handicraft gifts, and colorful cultural experiential activities including Chinese calligraphy, painting, Chinese paper-cutting, Chinese knots for Confucius Institute students and readers. Many readers were interested in China-theme books and cultural creativity products. FLTRP also donated the Dream of Red Mansions(French Version), Key Concepts in Chinese Thought and Culture, HSK Series and other books related to Chinese language learning and Chinese culture, and gave every participant student a book called Insights into Chinese Culture(French Version) published by FLTRP.

The "China-Theme Bookshelves" aims at expanding overseas marketing channels of foreign language versions of China-theme books, facilitating local readers in purchasing Chinese books and meeting their needs in acquiring China-related knowledge and information. FLTRP will endeavor to build the "China-Theme Bookshelves" and make it become the collecting and distributing centre of multilingual books related to China in Mediterranean regions, so as to transmit China's cultural pursuit and core spirit and promote exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and western civilizations.
